How to Get Involved on Campus

Getting involved in politics can seem like a daunting task as a student. However, by being part of the Illinois Education Association's Student Program, you have already taken a huge step into impacting educational politics. This page provides some other ways to get involved on campus that your chapter can advertise to its members throughout the year.

Vote

One of the easiest ways to get involved in politics on campus is by voting! The most important election chapters should advertise to their members is the primary for presidential candidates in March of 2016. Before voting, check out our page outlining all the presidential candidates and their stances on educational issues.

Attend Regional Meetings

Another way to get involved on campus is attending your IEA regional branch's meetings. The IEA has offices throughout the state that holds meetings student members are welcome to attend.

Use the following website to find the contact information for the closest IEA office to your chapter and ask them for a schedule of their regional meetings:

Email Representatives

Although you might think our state and national representatives are not concerned with the emails they receive from disgruntled citizens, a lot of emails on one topic can really make a difference. Emails to representatives do not always have to be negative either. Let your representative know that you appreciate all the work they have done for education in Illinois and encourage them to keep up their amazing representation! To email representatives, use our "Illinois Representatives" page to read about and find out who your representative is and then search their name on the internet to find their contact page.
